Alison (Allie) McDonald

Thank you for updating this on behalf of my sister Julie.  After high school, Julie graduated from Pomona College in 1974, Magna Cum Laude and went on to the USC Law School.  She also got her teaching credential along the way.  Once she passed the BAR, she moved to the Bay Area and worked for a couple of different law firms.  In her last ten years she focused on discrimination law and had several important cases on behalf of women who were being discriminated against in the workplace.

She was always an athlete and was inducted into the Pomona College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988 because she had been the high scorer in Women's Basketball for a number of years.  When she was diagnosed with cancer she was playing on three different recreational teams: flag football, softball and of course, basketball.

She was a devoted aunt to my two daughters and the children of my sister Mary.  I also have lived in the Bay Area since 1981 and Julie and I and our partners spent a lot of time together.  We spent many weekends camping in all of the glorious places there are to camp in Northern California.

She had a rough road with cancer, but never lost her wonderful sense of humor, her beautiful compassion and appreciation for the outdoors. She had a wonderful spirit and was dedicated to uplifiting individuals in the gay community.

She died in 1996 at the age of 42 but there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of her or miss her. Her life was short, but her spirit burned bright.
